When Star Wars and Faith Collide!!

The book of Deuteronomy in the Bible is crammed full of laws! Do’s and don’ts, not of all of which apply to modern life; but my point is this: there is a part in Deut. where Moses tells the Israelites that they need to ask God to curse those who break His laws…this is dark stuff!!! I’m not saying that we should ask God to curse people; I think the Israelites thought that, by threatening them with curses, people were sure to obey the rules…I wonder what God thought when He heard them say this?

And I realised: sometimes, faith is dark. Sometimes, faith gets serious. When things don’t make sence, when you have more questions than answers, when your list of problems seems to pile up instead of going down…it’s these times that either brake or strengthen our faith. You know how muscles get stronger with regular work and exercise i.e.) when they get used? Well, it’s the same with faith. Our faith grows under tension. If nothing changed and we never used our faith, then it would be pointless and become weak.

It’s for this reason that I’m convinced we suffer. I don’t know individual reasons behind pain and hard times, and you can argue that a stronger faith, isn’t worth the price of loosing a loved one for example. But the Bible says that “it is by faith we’ve been saved”…sounds like faith is pretty important. When we’re done, and we’re all out of options, there is still hope. To know this hope, you need to have faith in Jesus…sounds like faith is pretty important. If it wasn’t for the faith I have in Jesus, I’d be in a much worse place than I am now…THANK GOD! Sounds like faith is pretty important.

A friend of mine has just broken up with her boyfriend, and she’s not taking it very well, but it’s for the best that they’re no longer together. I care about her a lot and every part of my being wants to jump in and make everything alright again…but I know that won’t help her. This is something she needs to do on her own. I’ll be there to support her, I’ll always be there for her, but I can’t fight her battles for her. If I did, she’d never learn to stand on her own two feet.

I think God’s the same. I believe that He loves us so much that it takes a lot of His infinite power to not dive in and save us…again. He knows that we need to learn to depend on Him, for our faith to grow. Otherwise, we’ll end up in a worse place than this fallen world.

When the “Darkside” and Faith collide, beautiful things can come of it. “In all things, God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28)
